Character Profile: Noniea Danahan
Name: Noniea Danahan
Race: Elf
Sex: Female
Age: Late 60s
Description
Overview
Noniea is a normally quiet person, and some would consider her shy at first meeting. However, once she gets to know you people find that she simply is actually very contemplative. She simply prefers to think about things before she says them.
She is also a very caring person, but strict when she needs to be. This trait and more help her reign in her numerous children, many of which take after their late, loyal and thoughtful father, Tailon. Thankfully, she had always seen herself as a mother of many children, but perhaps she wasn't expecting the majority of them to be as rambunctious as they turned out.
While Noniea is a hard worker in her own ways, she has found that even she has trouble taking care of most things around the house and orchard. Money is a constant struggle, especially since most of the other businesses in and around Vivaldi have suffered as a result of the war with Ogsa. However, she is still reluctant to received help from anyone, and prefers to take care of most matters herself. She can be pretty stubborn about it, a fact which is not lost on her friends or family. Tailon knew this well, which is one of the reasons he made Mercher promise to help her out however he could, a promise that Noniea would have to accept as it was one of his final wishes.
Family Life
Having grown up on a farm with her parents in the northern regions of Amroin, Noniea had to have a strong work ethic. She is used to working long hours, especially with the number of children she has.
She has eight children: Gwenevere, the oldest, who lives nearby in Vivaldi with her husband and young son; Belesprit, her estranged daughter; Marian, her third born child, who is extremely skeptical; Vela, who is a little bit of a trouble maker; Montre, their only son; Sara and Naomi, the rambunctious twins; and Breen, the youngest.
Her husband, Tailon, worked primarily as a fisherman in the town of Vivaldi, earning them enough to purchase a small plot of land just outside of town known by locals as Hilstberry Hill. There he built a house and orchard, which was Noniea's idea. When the war with Ogsa began, Tailon volunteered for the Amroin military, where he was mortally wounded saving his shipmates.
Left alone to take care of her six remaining children and an orchard, Noniea is constantly busy. She primarily works in their orchard with her daughters, Gwenevere, Marian and Vela, while her son Montre helps the little ones take care of the animals in the barn with the youngest girls, Sara, Naomi and Breen.
Skills and Talents
Noniea has many skills and talents with regards to their orchard. She has much experience grown and taking care of many different types of plants and animals, but she prefers dealing with fruit trees. She is also a good cook, a combination that keeps her family well fed despite the war.
She has a passing familiarity with tools, and can do most basic types of woodworking. As such she can do most repairs around the house and barn that involve wood.
Unrelated to farm work, she is a somewhat talented guitar player. She doesn't play often anymore, with all the work to be done around the orchard, but she still breaks out the old guitar out on special occasions.
Rumors and Notes
There has been a few rumors that she has somewhat of a crush on Mercher, or that Mercher has developed a crush on her. However, neither of these rumors are substantiated in any way. In fact, she is still having a hard time with Tailon's death, and is not particularly interested in moving on with men, especially one half her age.
The two and a half decade age gap between Belesprit and Marian has been part of a number of different conversations over the years, with rumors of infidelity on the part of either Tailon or Noniea being a common point. The reason for this is not because of an affair, however. Tailon had joined the Amroin military for a twelve year stint when Belesprit was just five years old. During that time the two barely had any personal interaction with each other, with the exception of a number of letters. Once he was honorably discharged, he used the money he had made during that time to pay for the land in Vivaldi and build a house. Marian was born shortly after he finished their home.
Belesprit and Noniea have not been on speaking terms for a long time, a fact which saddens Noniea greatly. It was not so much because they had anything against each other, but simply because Belesprit butted heads with her father a good amount of the time after he got out of the military. Noniea has tried to make contact with her estranged daughter several times before the start of the war, and even a few times after Tailon's death, but has not had any luck with finding her second born daughter.
Her youngest daughter, Breen, was born just before the start of the war with Ogsa, and had spent only a few months with her father before he volunteered for a second term of military service.
